DE: Guten Morgen ihr Lieben! Ich hoffe ihr hattet alle schöne Ostern und dass euch der Osterhase viele Schokoeier gebracht hat. Ich beneide diejenigen von euch, die jetzt noch Osterurlaub haben… Mama, darf ich wieder in die Schule??? WARUM? Zum heutigem MeMadeMittwoch gibt es pünktlich frühlingshaftes Wetter und damit auch ein frühlingshaftes Outfit!

EN: Good Morning, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Easter and that the Easter Bunny brought you lots of yummy chocolate eggs. Those of you, that are still off on your Easter vacation… any chance we can switch? Since we are currently experiencing sensational spring weather, I thought I needed to show off a spring outfit that has been patiently been waiting to be worn, in my closet!

DE: Meine Liebe für den Deer und Doe Luzerne Schnitt habe ich schon mehrfach dokumentiert (hier und hier), aber er gehört schlicht und einfach zu meinen Lieblings- Schnittmustern und ganz ehrlich, es gibt nichts feineres, als wenn deine Jacke zu deinem Outfit passt! Für Version Nummer 3 habe ich mich für Gabardine von Pretty Mercerie entschieden. Der Stoff lässt sich wunderbar verarbeiten, soll heißen, franst nicht aus und lässt sich super bügeln. Den Schnitt habe ich übrigens in Größe 40 genäht und um 3.5 Zoll verlängert, er fällt nämlich sehr kurz aus. Sonst habe ich nichts verändert, was wirklich für den Schnitt spricht!

EN: I don’t think I have to explain my complete adoration of the Deer and Doe Luzerne pattern, I’ve already made it up a few times (here and here), but since it is a real TnT pattern for me, I decided to make up another (and let’s be real nothing looks more chic, than when your jacket goes with your outfit!). For my third version I decided on using gaberdine from Pretty Mercerie. The fabric is divine, which pretty much means, it presses really well and doesn’t fray at all. I chose to make up size 40 and lengthened the pattern by 3.5 inches as the coat is quite short. I didn’t make any additional changes to the pattern!

DE: Für das Innenleben habe ich Schrägband von Joann’s verwendet. In Amerika verkaufen sie deutlich breiteres Schrägband, was wohl von Quiltern besonders beliebt ist und das hat mir die Arbeit deutlich erleichtert. Mir gefällt, wie gut der Trench von innen aussieht. Die Knöpfe stammen von Stoff und Stil, die habe ich glaube ich im Januar bestellt… ich kann mich leider nicht mehr erinnern. Die Jacke habe ich übrigens im Januar beim Nähwochenende in Posstau fertig gestellt. Meine Liebe zu diesem Schnitt hält weiter an, ich arbeite gerade ein eine sehr klassische beige Version für Dienstreisen ( wenn ich nicht meine Kollegen im Ausland mit meiner Farbwahl schocken möchte! PAH!). Übrigens, seid ihr auch schon alle so gespannt auf die neue Deer und Doe Frühlings Kollektion?

EN: For sprucing up the insides of the coat, I chose to use pre-made bias binding from Joann’s. The bias binding is quite wider than the stuff we get here in Europe, which is why it is quite popular with quilter, so I’ve been told. It definitely made applying it to the seams much easier than any of the stuff I made myself. The buttons are from Stoff and Stil, I think I ordered them at the beginning of the year, but I honestly can’t really remember. I finished the coat in January, when I was at the sewing retreat in Posstau. It continues to be one of my all time favourite patterns, as I’ve already cut out a classic beige version for my business trips (when I don’t want to cause discomfort to my colleagues when wearing weird colours! PAH!). Also, anyone else looking forward to the new Deer and Doe Spring collection?

DE: Auch meine liebe zu der Farbe Rosa hält weiter an. Das Nikko Top ist von True Bias, von der ich bisher nur das Ogden Cami genäht habe. Das Nikko Top ist SUPER!! Ich glaube, ich habe es an dem Tag herunter geladen, als es auf dem Markt gekommen ist und habe mittlerweile schon 6 Nikko Tops genäht…. Ich sollte dazu mal einen Blogpost schreiben. Ich habe mich für Größe 10 entschieden und habe am Top NICHTS geändert! In den Schultern habe ich ein Gummiband für Schwimmanzüge verwendet, als es mir bei den anderen Tops ausgegangen ist, habe ich zuerst vorgeschnitten Formband verwendet und bei der letzten Version gar nichts… da ich nicht so oft mit Jersey nähe, weiß ich nicht ob das, dass richtige war und bin vor Ratschläge offen!!

EN: My love for blush also seems to continue! The Nikko Top is a pattern from True Bias, I’ve so far only made up the Ogden Cami from her, but let me tell you the Nikko is AMAZING! I think I downloaded the pattern, the day it was released and have since made up 6, which need their own blogpost, if I’m honest….I chose to make up a size 10 and made no alterations at all. I did use clear elastic for the shoulders and once I ran out of that, I used stay tape… and once I ran out of that I didn’t use anything. As I don’t really sew a lot with jersey, I really don’t know what the right is to go about this and am open to suggestions.

DE: Ich habe diesen Stoff von Blackbird Fabrics verwendet, den habe ich auch in dunkel Blau und Grau bestellt, und es gibt glaube ich nur noch Kaschmir, was weicher als dieser Stoff ist…. Mein Kater Henry wollte bei diesem Shooting unbedingt dabei sein, er ist ein kleiner Schlawiner, der sich eine halbe Stunde vorher in unseren Teich gestürzt hatte….Katzen sind wirklich merkwürdige Wesen….Ich hoffe dieses tolle Frühlingswetter hält noch eine ganze Weile so an, Ich mag wieder meine Sommersachen tragen! Ich wünsche euch allen noch eine tolle Woche!

EN: I used this fabric from Blackbird Fabrics, which is probably as soft as cashmere…I also bought it in navy and grey…..My CATTERNWEIGHT aka Henry chose to photobomb my backyard shooting. He’s a strange creature, half an hour before we took these pics he had jumped into the pond with delight but wanted to murder us, when we tried to give him a bath and a blow out….I hope this fabulous Spring weather stays for a bit and hope you continue to have a great week!

Geschichten einer selbstgenähten Arbeitsgarderobe Teil I – Tales of a handmade office wadrobe Part I

DE: Guten Morgen ihr Lieben! DER FRÜHLING IST DA!!!!! Man, da hat ja ewig gedauert. Ich habe endlich angefangen meinen Gemüsegarten zu starten (soll ich einen Post darüber schreiben?), habe einen Frühlingsputz hinter mir und habe meinen Kleiderschrank ausgemistet. Meine Sommergarderobe habe ich auch schon ausgemistet und habe mich von einigen Sachen getrennt, die mir schon seit letztem Jahr nicht mehr so gut passten oder an denen ich mittlerweile den Gefallen verloren habe (soll heißen…das meine Nähkünste früher wünschen übrig gelassen haben!!). Was mach ihr eigentlich mit euren selbstgemachten Sachen, die ihr nicht mehr anzieht? Ich schicke meiner Mama und meiner Schwester meistens Bilder und frage sie, ob sie die Sachen haben möchte und den Rest gebe ich der Kirche in unserem Dorf.

EN: Good morning everyone! SPRING HAS SPRUNG!!!!! SRSLY, THIS TOOK FOREVER!! I’ve finally started my vegetable garden (shall I write a blogpost about it?), did some serious spring cleaning and did a serious purge of all my summer clothes. I finally bit the bullet and let go of a few things, that haven’t fit me in years or that I no longer like (read my sewing skills from back in the day were more than iffy!) What do you guys do with the handmade garments you no longer love? I usually send my mom and sister some pictures and if they don’t want them I donate it to the church in our town.

DE: Ich habe im April eine neue Stelle in der gleichen Firma begonnen und musste mir ein paar etwas arbeitstauglichere Klamotten nähen. (HEUL!!) Das war auch der Grund, weshalb ich mich von etwas legeren Sachen getrennt habe, die ich sonst immer in die Arbeit angezogen habe. Ich möchte zwar etwas professioneller wirken, aber meinen Stil nicht verlieren und nur schwarz anzuziehen ist doof (als ich 16 war habe ich ein ganzes Jahr lang nur schwarz getragen, das war meine Punk/Grunge Phase…WARUM??!). Ich habe mir also vorab überlegt, was ich gerne anziehe und was mir in meinem Kleiderschrank fehlt und zwar Sachen, die ersten Unifarben sind und zweitens, die ich gut kombinieren kann. Ich gebe zu, mein Kleiderschrank besteht aus einem wilden mix von bunt gedruckten Kleidern und Blusen…es musste also etwas Ordnung rein!

EN: I started a new position in April, in the same company and need to dress a bit more corporate (SOBBING!!), which is why I purged a number of my more casual things, that I would normally wear to the office and really needed to have a think on what I need to sew for my office attire. I want to come across a bit more professional without losing my style and let’s be honest only wearing black is terribly dull (come to think of it, when I was 16 a had a bit of a grunge/punk phase and wore black for an entire year… WHY??) I had a look through my closet to see what I really desperately needed and had to admit to myself, that my closet is a wild mix of printed dresses and blouses, that are fun but not really office attire. What I really need are some uni colored garments that I combine. (please don’t say wardrobe capsule, I despise that whole principle!!

DE: Was mir fehlte waren ein paar Röcke, und Blusen und ein paar Arbeitstaugliche Jacken und Hosen. Ich habe bisher noch nie Hosen genäht aber habe mir letztes Jahr die Lander Pants Schnitt von True Bias gekauft und werde mich da jetzt ran trauen. Ich glaube ich werde die längere Version nähen, denn ich kann mich immer noch nicht mit den “Hochwasser-Hosen” anfreunden kann. Auch möchte ich noch einmal einen Ultimate Pencil Skirt von Sew Over It nähen, ich hatte in der Vergangenheit wirklich gute Ergebnisse mit diesem Schnitt erzielen können, nur sind sie mir alle zu klein… ZU VIELE POMMES!!! Ich möchte dafür einen dunkelblauen Anzugstoff, den ich vor 3 Jahren bei Abakhan in Manchester gekauft habe, verwenden.

EN: What I really need are a few skirts and blouses, a few jackets and trousers that I can combine with each other. I have never attempted to sew trousers before but I own the Lander Pants by True Bias and I think that they are doable. I do think, that I will be making the long version as I still have not warmed up to the cropped trousers look. I would also I like to sew up the Ultimate Pencil Skirt by Sew Over It, which I’ve had a lot of success with in the past, however all the skirts I’ve made are too small…. TOO MANY CHIPS!!! I’d like to use some navy suiting that I bought at Abakhan in Manchester 3 years ago.

DE: Was die Blusen angeht, möchte ich das Aalborg 12 Kleid von How to do Fashion als Bluse nähen, ich habe dafür eine schöne Viskose von Atelier Brunette, den ich letztes Jahr im Sommerausverkauf, gekauft habe. Auch möchte ich eine Anderson Blouse von Sew Over It mit einem schönen Crepe von Stoff und Still vernähen, den ich am Anfang des Jahres auf dem Bloggertreff in München gekauft habe. Die Anderson Bluse, habe ich schon ein paar Mal genäht (das letzte Mal wohl vor 2 Jahren?), dieses Mal werde ich die Schultern schmälern und Vorderteile etwas mehr übereinander nähen, damit der Ausschnitt nicht mit einer Sicherheitsnadel befestigt werden muss.

EN: I would like to use the Aalborg 12 Dress from How to do Fashion to make a blouse, I have a really lovely viscose from Atelier Brunette, that I bought last year in their summer sale. I’d also like to sew up an Anderson Blouse from Sew Over It, I actually made a bunch of them, about 2 years ago. I have a really nice crepe from Stoff and Stil, that I bought a the Sewing-blogger meet-up in January. For this version I’d like to take in the shoulders in a bit and make sure to overlap the front bodice pieces, so I don’t have to use a safety pin to secure the neckline.

DE: Und da ich ohne Kleider natürlich nicht leben kann, möchte ich gerne das Joan Dress von Sew Over It nähen. Ich habe letztes Jahr im Herbst bei Classic Textiles in London einen Aubergine Farben Krepp Stoff gekauft den ich gerne dafür verwenden möchte. Auch möchte ich das Lea Dress von Lisa Comfort nähen, dafür möchte ich einen weißen Krepp Stoff von Stoff und Stil verwenden, denn ich als Geschenk von Stoff und Stil beim Bloggertreff am Anfang vom Jahr bekommen habe.

EN: As I cannot live without dresses, I have decided on making up the Joan Dress by Sew Over IT in an aubergine crepe I got at Classic Textiles in London last October. I also would really like to make up the Lea Dress by Lisa Comfort in a really fabulous white crepe, I was gifted by Stoff and Stil at the Sewing-Blogger meet-up at the beginning of the year.

DE: Da ich nun auch noch öfters auf Dienstreisen gehen werde, dachte ich, dass ich noch einen Klassischen Trenchcoat gebrauchen könnte (OK, ich gebe zu ich liebe den Luzerne Schnitt und habe ihn schon 3 Mal genäht und ganz ehrlich es gibt nichts tolleres, als wenn der Trench farblich zu deinem Outfit passt!!) weshalb ich zum vierten Mal den Luzerne Trenchcoat nähen werden und zwar in beiger Gabardine (LANGWEILIG!!) die ich letztes Jahr von Alfatex gekauft habe. Keine Angst, ich werde ein peppiges, grelles Schrägband für das Innenleben der Jacke verwenden, denn Jacken ohne Farbe haben keinen Platz in meinem Kleiderschrank.

EN: I will be going a number of business trips in the future and thought that I could really use a classic trench coat (OK, let’s be real…. I love the Luzerne Trench Coat, I’ve made it up 3 times already and let’s face it: Nothing looks better, than when you coat matches your outfit!) which is why I will be making a fourth version using beige Gabardine (BORING!!!), that I got at Alfatex last year. Don’t worry, I will be using the most colorful bias binding that I can find in my stash, because jackets without color have no place in my closet!

DE: Ich denke für den Anfang ist das ja schon einiges und ich freue mich schon die vielen Schnitte und Stoffe umzusetzen, ich eh schon in meinem Lager habe. Ganz ehrlich, ich sollte mir immer am Anfang des Monats überlegen, was ich eigentlich nähen möchte, so kann ich schon vorher alles schon vorbereiten und falle dann nicht in die Versuchung wieder neue Schnitte oder noch schlimmer NEUEN STOFF zu kaufen der eh wieder in meinem Lager verschwindet….Ich habe über Ostern schon die meisten Sachen ausgeschnitten, dass macht mir das vernähen deutlich einfacher, da ich es wirklich hasse Projekte auszuschneiden ( das einzige was ich noch mehr hasse, sind PDFs zusammen zu kleben, aber jetzt da ich nur noch meine Schnitte plotten lasse, muss ich das zum Glück nicht mehr machen. YIPPIE!!). Was meint ihr, reicht das oder fehlt mir etwas, woran ich nicht mehr gedacht habe?

EN: I think that’s plenty for the start! I’m really looking forward to making up all these patterns and fabrics, that have been languishing in my stash anyway. I really should make a plan at the beginning of the month of all the things I want to make up, perhaps this will ensure, that I don’t go on another pattern buying binge or even worse another fabric shopping splurge for things that will only collect dust in my stash. I’ve already taken the liberty of cutting out most of the projects over Easter, which makes sewing everything up a breeze. I truly HATE cutting out my projects (the only thing I hate more than cutting things out, is pasting PDFs together, but since discovering copy shops and plotter files, I no longer do this! YIPPIE!!) What do you think? Have I missed anything?

Patiently waiting for spring – Holly blouse, Tulip skirt and Luzerne coat

EN:I think it’s safe to say, that we are all waiting for spring to finally arrive and to start wearing clothes with colors!

When Sewoverit released their Tulip Skirt last year, I was on it like white on rice, I printed it off, chose the fabric and then promptly forgot to make it up. THE HORROR!! I still had a meter of blush twill left over from my first Luzerne coat and thought it would make a great Spring wardrobe staple. I WAS RIGHT!

I think it took me exactly 2 hours to cut and sew this skirt, which also included hand sewing the hem, for a nicer finish. I cut a straight size 12 and added 1.5 inches for length. So far, I’ve always had really great experiences with Sewoverit. All the notches matched up and the instructions are clear and easy to understand. I didn’t have enough fabric to sew the waistband in one, so there is a seam in the middle, at first this really annoyed me, but I have since decided it’s a cool design feature. SORTED!! I used an invisible zipper that went in without a hitch ( is it me, or do these kinds of zips go in perfectly the first time or you have to unpick it 30 times? yes, no??? Let me know!!)

DE: Ich weiss nicht wie es euch geht, aber meiner Meinung nach, kann nun endlich der Frühling kommen!

Als Sewoverit ihr letztes Jahr ihren Tulip Skirt veröffentlicht hatten, war ich ganz hin und weg, ich habe den Schnitt sofort ausgedruckt, einen Stoff aus meinem Lager gewählt nur um anschlissend meinen ganzen Plan zu vergessen. UPS!! Ich hatte noch einen Meter von meinem rosa Twill übrig, ein Reststück von meinen ersten Luzerne–Mantel und dachte es wuerde sich recht gut dazu eignen, meinen Kleiderschrank Fruehlings tauglich zu machen.

Ich glaube, es dauerte genau 2 Stunden den Rock auszuschneiden und anschliessend zu nähen, den Saum nähte ich mit der Hand, da ich finde, dass der Rock so etwas schöner aussieht. Ich habe die Größe 12 gewählt und 1,5 Zoll Länge hinzugefügt, da der Rock mir wohl zu kurz geworden wäre. Bisher hatte ich immer gute Erfahrungen mit Sewoverit, die Anweisungen sind klar und leicht verständlich und ich denke der Schnitt wäre auch für Anfänger sehr einfach zu bewähltigen. Ich hatte nicht genug Stoff um den Bund aus einem Stück zu nähen, weshalb ich nun genau in der Mitte einen Saum habe. Zuerst ärgerte mich das ungemein darüber, mittlerweile habe ich mich damit abgefunden und finde, es könnte glatt zum Design dazu gehören. (Ich glaube das rede ich mir immer noch ein…) Ich habe einen verdeckten Reißverschluss verwendet, der gleich beim ersten Mal problemlos eingenäht werden konnte (ist das nur bei mir so, dass bei dieser Art von Reißverschlüssen das einnähen entweder beim ersten Mal perfekt funktioniert oder man musst es 30mal aufzutrennen? Ja, Nein??? Lasst es mich wissen!!)

EASY PEASY LEMON SQUEEZY!

EN: So the Holly Blouse! This is the first time I’ve ever used a Style Arc pattern, I’ve been admiring their vast range of ready to wear patterns, that are all so on trend and finally pulled the trigger and I ordered a pattern off Amazon, so I’d have it by the next day, which I think is just brilliant! My love for bow blouses is well documented on my IG account, but I decided to branch out and try a new pattern.

I chose a very nice white silk crepe and cut out all the pieces with a rotary cutter, which worked out really well. I cut out a size 10 and didn’t change a single thing. The construction is quite simple if you’ve sewn a few blouses before, the instructions are limited, but they do give you a few pointers which is helpful. The other thing that you might want to take into consideration, is that the seam allowance is only 1 cm, I personally thought that was more than enough to make French seams with it, because PRETTY INSIDES!!

I used a very light weight interfacing for the cuffs and the facings and sewed with Rayon thread from Gütermann. I read somewhere that cotton thread can be a bit to heavy for silk fabric and might make the seams look a bit puckered. I actually bought a whole bunch of this stuff at the last Hobbycraft sale where all the Gütermann thread was going for half the price!!!!

DE: Zu der Bluse, ich habe bisher noch nie ein Muster von Style Arc verwendet, habe aber schon sehr lange ihre Vielzahl von modernen Schnitte bewundert und als ich dann mit dem Rock fertig war, dachte ich, “Jetzt brauchst du dazu auch eine neue Bluse!” Bisher habe ich immer den Blusen Schnitt von Sewoverit verwendet (mit Sicherheit 7 Mal, Bilder dazu findet ihr auf meine IG account) aber ich dachte, ich probier mal etwas neues aus. Style Arc Papierschnitte kann man übrigens über Amazon bestellen, was sehr praktisch ist, vorallem, wenn sie am nächsten Tag im Briefkasten sind! YAS!!!!

Der Blusen Schnitt heist Holly, ich habe weisse Seide verwendet und alles mit meinem Rotary Cutter (was ist hierfür bitte das richtige Deutsche Wort?? Laut Leo ist das Rollfräse…) ausgeschnitten, was deutlich schmerzfreier war, als alles mit meiner Schere aus zuschneiden! Ich habe die Groesse 10 ausgeschnitten und absolut nichts am Schnitt verändert. Genäht habe ich alles mit einem Rayon Faden von Gütermann, da ich einmal gelesen habe, dass Baumwollfaden zu schwer fuer Seide sei und man dann hässliche Kräuselungen bei der Naht bekommt, dies wollte ich auf jeden Fall verhindern. Das hat übrigens echt super funktioniert und die Bluse war in wenigen Stunden fertig gestellt.

EN: As no spring outfit is complete without a proper coat, in the UK, I made another Deer and Doe Luzerne trench coat. For this version I used a cotton canvas from Barry’s in Birmingham, as the fabric was a bit see through, I opted to interline it was an interfacing meant for wool coats. The interlining made the fabric drape really nicely and it also made it opaque, WIN-WIN. I cut a straight size 40 and lengthened the skirt by 2 inch, I also used some vintage glass buttons from my stash that kind of blend into my coat, which isn’t a bad thing per say…

I made bias binding out of left over Liberty I had in my stash, however.. IT DOESN’T GO WITH MY COAT AT ALL… AT ALL!!!! WHAT WAS I THINKING?? Anyway, I’ve decided nobody but I will see it, so there’s that. Construction wise this took a lot less time to make up the second time round. My bound button holes look sooooo much neater, I finished watching Emerald City on catch-up TV and had a brand new coat. =D

I love it so very much, and must now sewing many new outfit that go with it, so I can wear it out! #nevernotsewing

So this is my way of reigning in Spring, I want all the pastel colors and the fun outfits.

DE: Da im Vereinigten Königreich, kein Frühlingsoutfit ohne einen richtigen Mantel komplett ist, habe ich einen weiteren Deer and Doe Luzerne Trenchcoat genäht. Für diese Version, habe ich einen Baumwoll–Canvas von Barry’s in Birmingham verwendet, da der Stoff ein bisschen durchsichtig war, entschied ich mich für eine Vlieseline die eigentlich für Wollmäntel gedacht ist. Die Einlage hat den Stoff wirklich schön drapieren lassen und machte es auch weniger durchsichtig, WIN-WIN. Ich habe wieder die Grösse 40 genäht, den Rock um 2 Zoll verlängert und vintage Glass Knöpfe aus meinem Lager verwendet.

Ich habe Schrägband aus Liberty Resten, die ich in meinem Lager hatte, gefertigt… NUR, PASST ES ÜBERHAUPT NICHT ZU MEINEM MANTEL… ÜBERHAUPT NICHT!!! WAS HABE ICH MIR NUR DABEI GEDACHT?? Jedenfalls habe ich mich entschlossen, dass niemand, ausser mir das sehen wird, also basta!

Was die Konstruktion des Mantels angeht, dauerte es diesmal deutlich viel weniger Zeit alles zu nähen. Meine Knopflöcher sehen so viel ordentlicher aus, ich habe die letzten paar Folgen Emerald City im Catch-Up TV geschaut und hatte plötzlich einen neuen Trench!

Ich liebe meinen neuen Mantel so sehr und nun muss ich lauter Outfits passend dazu nähen, damit ich ihn auch regelmässig tragen kann! #nevernotsewing

My Deer and Doe Luzerne Trench Coat

EN: A few weeks ago I was walking around the top floor of the Bullring in Birmingham, when I came across the most amazing blush lace trench coat by Burberry, needless to say it was way out of my budget, but I couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was in dire need of a new trench coat, my old one is 8 years old and way too small… so I started looking at different patterns from Burda to McCall’s to Vogue to the Robson Coat, but none of them really appealed to me. I think one of the reasons was, that thy all looked a bit too classic (and some looked a bit dated, to be honest…) Then Deer and Doe and wonderfully chic French sewing label released their new spring collection, and would you believe it, they had a cute, modern trench coat that ticked all the boxes for me. It had a fuller skirt, bound button holes and was finished with bias binding. You can guess how long it took me to press order!

DE: Vor einigen Wochen habe ich einem Kaufhaus in Birmingham den allerschoensten Rosa farbenen Spitzen Trench Coat von Burberry entdeckt. Es war Liebe auf den ersten Blick, aber mein Geldbeutel machte mir da ganz klar einen Strich durch die Rechnung. Ich habe noch Tage spaeter an diesen Trench gedacht und beschlossen mir selber einen zu naehen, mein alter Trench war schon fast 8 Jahre alt und mir viel zu eng. Es begann die Suche nach dem passenden Schnitt, ich schaute mir Muster von Burda, McCalls und Vogue and geliebaeugelte den Robson Coat, aber DER RICHTIGE war irgendwie nicht dabei. Ich vermute, viele der Schnitte waren mir ein wenig zu klassisch und zum Teil auch etwas altbacken. =/ ABER DANN! Deer und Doe, dieses fantastisch, schicke Franzoesische Schnittmusterlabel bracht 3 neue Muster, Anfang letzter Woche auf den Markt und deren Trench Coat der Luzerne, war genau dass, was ich gesucht hatte. Mir gefiel wie modern der Schnitt war, dass der Rock etwas weiter war und dass alle Naehte mit Querband versaeubert wurde. GENIAL!

I ordered 4 meters of peachy-blushy twill off eBay, unfortunately it’s currently sold out, but they have some really nice alternative colors, so take a look! The fabric was only 1.10m wide and I was sweating bullets because I wasn’t sure if it would be enough. I cut a straight size 40 and managed to get all the pieces out of the 4 meter, PHEW!!!(I did lengthen the skirt by 2 inches, because I wanted the trench to be a bit longer!) For the bias binding I looked through my stash of liberty pieces and found a vintage looking yellow piece which was about 45 cm long. I cut 2.5 inch strips on the bias and then sewed all the pieces into one long strip. I then folded the strip in half and pressed it, I usually do this, when I make binding for my quilts and it always turns out great, so NO REGRETS!!! I think the hardest part of making this coat is really cutting everything out and preparing the fabric and ironing it.

DE: Ich bestellte 4 Meter von einem Rosa-Pfirsich Twill ueber eBay, die Farbe ist leider ausverkauft, aber der Haendler hat noch viele schoene andere Farben, also tobt euch aus! Der Stoff war jedoch nur 1.10m breit, und ich hatte etwas Panik, dass ich nicht genug Stoff hatte um alle Teile ausschneiden zu koennen, aber Entwarnung, es ging sich aus! Ich habe Groesse 40 ohne irgendwelche Anpassungen ausgeschnitten. Fuer das Querband habe ich mein Lager durchkaemmt und einen Liberty Stoff in Gelb Toenen gefunden den ich dann in 2.5inch Streifen geschnitten habe und dann in Querband verarbeitet habe. Diese Methode verwende ich fuer meine Quilts und bisher ist auch nie etwas schief gegangen. Ich muss zugeben, das anstrengendste an diesem Muster ist wahrscheinlich das Ausschneiden und das Produzieren von Querband!

EN: To the instructions, if you are looking for some serious handholding while making this, you will be disappointed. The instructions have illustrations, but are brief and to the point. I recommend looking at YouTube videos if you are unsure on how to attach the binding or how to make the bound button holes. I think Deer and Doe try to cater to seamstresses, that have a little bit more experience, which isn’t a bad thing at all, however if I were a beginner, I might need some help.

DE: Was die Anleitung angeht, solltest du darauf hoffen, dass man dir die Hand haelt und dir alles erklaert, wirst du enttaeuscht sein. Deer and Doe gehen davon aus, dass ihre Kunden schon etwas Erfahrung haben, es gibt zwar Bilder fuer alle Schritte, aber die Erlaeuterungen dazu sind meistens kurz gehalten. Solltest du also nicht genau wissen, wie du mit dem Querband hantieren sollst oder nicht genau verstehst, was du mit den Knopfloechern machen sollst, empfehle ich dir YouTube!!

EN: Putting the coat together was really straight forward, I’ve sewn a few things from Deer and Doe before and they always come together beautifully, I love the very chic finish, Hong Kong binding really is something special, isn’t it? I just realized that I haven’t made any effort to pretty up my seams since I’ve gotton my overlocker, I used to french seam everything =/

I used some pretty vintage buttons from my button stash, they are from the 1960’s and were made in the Czech Republic! LIKE A BOSS!I love my new trench coat sooooooooooo much!!

PS: The dress I’m wearing is my second Vintage Shirtdress by Sewoverit, it’s also my favorite.

DE: Was das tatsaechliche naehen des Trench Coats angeht, kam alles erstaunlich schnell zusammen, ich hatte schon einmal einen Schnitt von Deer und Doe probiert und mir gefielt, dass alle Markierungen gepasst haben und das Endprodukt immer sehr schick und sauber ausfiel. Das alle Naehte mit Querband versaeubert wurden fand ich echt super, das ist so ein toller Eyecatcher, wenn man den Mantel aufmacht!

Ich habe vintage Knoepfe aus meinem Lager verwendet, die stammen aus den 1960s aus der Tschechischen Republik, ich finde die passen hervorragend zum Mantel! Ich liebe meinen neuen Trench und bis so froh, dass ich mich an diesen Schnitt getraut habe!

PS: Das Kleid ist uebrigens mein zweites Vintage Shirtdress von Sewoverit, es ist auch mein Lieblingskleid.
