DE: Meine Lieben, letztes Wochenende habe ich von Donnerstag bis Samstag in München einen Dirndl Nähkurs bei Mei Dirndl besucht. Als Österreicherin, die in Bayern lebt und kein Dirndl besitzt, müsste ich mich eigentlich in Grund und Boden schämen… in der Vergangenheit hat mir eine sehr liebe Freundin (DANKE JULIA!) immer eins für Volksfeste oder sonstiges geliehen. Besagte Freundin ist schon vor einiger Zeit aus Bayern weggezogen und nun hatte ich ein was-ziehe-ich-aufs-nächste-Dorffest-Dilemma. Aber dann fragte mich Anna von Petersilie und Co. Ob ich Lust hätte mit ihr auf den oben genannten Kurs zu gehen. UND OB ICH BOCK HATTE!

 

EN: Hello everyone, I hope you are well and are enjoying the very summery weather we are experiencing in Europe! Last weekend I spent three days on a Dirndl Making course in Munich. As an Austrian living in Bavaria, who doesn’t own a Dirndl, I am considered a bit of a disgrace HAHAHAHAH in the past my wonderful friend Julia used to loan me one of her Dirndls for Beer festival or similar events, she has however moved away from Bavaria and therefore I am left Dirndl-less. Anna from Petersilie and Co. contacted me a few months ago and asked me if I was interested in going on course by Mei Dirndl with her AND I WAS SOOOO READY FOR IT!

 

DE: Ich war bei der Vorbesprechung auf Dienstreise in Rumänien, habe mir aber die Einkaufsliste mit den Stoffmengen und sonstigen Zutaten per Whatapp schicken lassen und habe alles beim Fingerhut in Landshut gekauft, nachdem ich auf der Standesamtlichen Hochzeit ein Freundin war! LOL! Andrea, die den Kurs leitet, hat jedem von uns ein Dirndl-Mieder anhand unserer Maße und Modelvorstellungen erstellt. JA, WIRKLICH! Ich hatte mir (nach der Hochzeit meiner Freundin) eine Hochgeschlossene Dirndl Bluse gekauft und schickte Andrea einfach ein paar Bilder, die ich auf Instgram gefunden hatte und sie hat voll und ganz meinen Geschmack getroffen!

 

EN: I was on a business trip in Romania on the pre-Dirndl Making meeting, however I was sent a shoppinglist per whatsapp and bought all my fabrics, notions and trims at Fingerhut in Landshut, after going to a wedding of a friend. HAHAHAHAH Andrea our teacher made custom bodices for our Dirndls, using our measurements and a picture of the Dirndl of our choice. I had bought a Dirndl Blouse after the same wedding, mentioned before (Yes you can get lots of Dirndl things in Landshut, it’s a fantastic town to visit, if you’re in the area btw!), and sent her some pictures I had found on Instagram. Andrea completely understood what I wanted and I adore the design she chose for me!

 

DE: Am Donnerstag haben wir erst alles ausgeschnitten (Ich war wieder zu eifrig und habe nur mit einem Ohr zugehört und habe die 10cm Saum, die ich zur Rocklänge hätte dazu addieren sollte… vergessen… aber da habe wir einfach einen Beleg für den Saum gezaubert und das sieht sogar besser aus!), Paspel Band gemacht und das Mieder genäht. Andrea hat uns dann über Nacht mit ihrer Stickmaschine ein Design unserer Wahl eingestickt – bei mir ist es hinten im Futter! Weil wir schon von Maschinen sprechen, haben wir alle (10 Damen) auf Bernina Maschinen genäht und nun weiß ich wirklich nicht wie ich je wieder auf meiner “Basic B*tch Nähmaschine” nähen soll (ernsthaft, ein Leben ohne Kniehebel, ist nicht lebenswert!). Auch standen uns 2 Babylock Overlock zur Verfügung…. Auch hier kann meine Singer nicht mithalten…. HEUL!

 

EN: We cut out all the fabrics on Thursday ( I was being a bit impatient and cut out the skirt without adding the 10 cm hem allowance!!! We fixed it by making a facing for the hem and it turned out brilliant!), we made our own piping and sewed up the bodices. Andrea let us chose an embroidery design of our choosing and embroidered it overnight onto our bodices. My design is on the back of my lining and I LOVE IT! And while we’re talking about the machines, we all (10 of us!) got to use Bernina machine and 2 Babylock Overlockers. SERIOUSLY, how on earth will I ever get used to sewing on my “Basic B*tch sewing machine” again? (Having a knee lever is the best thing since sliced bread!) CRYING FOREVER!

 

DE: Am Freitag haben wir die Mieder mit dem Futter verstürzt und die Röcke genäht, außerdem gab es die erste Anprobe für das Mieder. Über Nacht hat Andrea uns allen die Knopflöcher mit ihrer Knopfloch-Maschine genäht und die sind PERFEKT geworden. Auch hier weiß ich nicht wie ich wieder auf meine eigene Maschine umsteigen soll… HEUL! Das einzige Manko war, dass ich 2 Knöpfe zu wenig gekauft hatte und dann 2 andere annähen musste, das sieht aber erstaunlicherweise gar nicht so schlimm aus!) Am Samstag war dann die Hochzeit des Mieder mit dem Rock und natürlich das Nähen der Schürze angesagt. Ich war relativ schnell fertig, stellt dann aber fest, dass ich die Schürze noch ziemlich kürzen musste (weil ich doch den Rock am ersten Tag zu kurz geschnitten hatte!), und habe dann nach Anweisung von Andrea einfach 2 Mal Biesen genäht.

 

EN: On Friday we lined the bodices and sewed the pleats in the skirts and did our first fitting of the bodices. Andrea then sewed on 10 perfect buttons for all of us on her buttonhole making machine… SERIOUSLY?? I accidently only bought 8 instead of 10 buttons and will have to rectify that in the coming week, but I had two similar buttons in my stash and used those for the time being. On Saturday, we attached the skirts to the bodices and sewed the aprons. I was done very quickly only to realize that the apron was way too long, because I had cut the skirt incorrectly on the first day, so I added pleats to the hem of the apron and think it looks fab!

 

DE: Das war mit Abstand das aufwendigste Projekt was ich bisher genäht habe, ich habe Unmengen von neuen Techniken gelernt, durfte neue Maschinen ausprobieren und habe zum Schluss ein perfektes Dirndl bekommen. Ich bin mächtig stolz und werde es zum nächsten Dorffest tragen. Solltest du selbst gerne ein Dirndl nähen wollen und dich noch nicht getraut haben, empfehle ich dir mit vollen Herzen diesen Kurs, Andrea ist eine ganz tolle Lehrerin, die sehr geduldig und unheimlich liebenswert ist! In dem Sinne wünsche ich euch allen einen guten Start in den Juni und schaut doch bei MeMadeMittwoch vorbei, dort gibt es viele weitere gut gekleidete Damen!

 

EN: This was without a doubt the most time and labor intensive project of my sewing career and was completely worth all the time I spent on it. I learned so many new techniques on this course and got to try out different machine, which were all amazing! But most importantly I sewed my very own Dirndl and am so proud of it. If you live in Munich, or Germany (or anywhere else on this planet) and really want to make your own perfect Dirndl, I wholeheartedly recommend this course. Andrea is a fantastic teacher who is very patient and wonderfully nice. On that note I’m off to find a Beer or Wine festival, where I can wear my new outfit! Talk to you soon!
