DE: Guten Morgen ihr Lieben, dies ist mein erster Blogeintrag den ich in Deutschland schreibe!!!! Mein Umzug ist echt super gelaufen, die Autofahrt von 16.5 Stunden würde ich euch jedoch nicht empfehlen, die war mies und ich hoffe auch nicht, dass ich dass bald noch einmal machen muss. Kommen wir also zu etwas erfreulicherem – Das neue Schnittmuster von Tilly Buttons, das Etta Kleid. Ich muss gestehen, als ich den Newsletter von Tilly Towers mit dem Muster und den Stoffkits bekommen habe, sofort zugeschlagen habe. Sonst kaufe ich ihre Muster immer nur wenn sie Ausverkauf hat, da sie doch etwas teuer sind. Mir gefiel der Retro-Look des Kleides sehr, der Kragen was sehr fesch und auch die Kleinen aufgenähten Taschen, bei der Version mit den 3/4 Ärmel haben es mir sehr angetan. Ich hab den Stoffkit mit dem Zitronenstoff gekauft, der erinnerte mich sehr an die Kleider von Dolce und Gabbana, die vor einigen Jahren auf allen Blogs zu sehen waren. Damit wollte ich Version 1, also die mit den kurzen Ärmeln und dem Kragen machen.

En: Good morning everyone! This is my very first blogpost that I am writing from Germany! My move from the UK was really good, the 16.5 hour road trip however was a bit of a pain and I will be glad if I don’t ever have to do that again! Let’s talk about something much nicer: The Etta Dress – the new pattern by Tilly Buttons. I must admit, the moment I opened the newsletter from Tilly Towers, informing me about the pattern and the kits, I nearly did a somersault. I really love the retro-look of the dress, the cute collar and the flaps with the buttons on the hips, really cute details! I ordered the fabric kit with the Lemon fabric, which reminded me (and everyone else) of the dresses, that Dolce and Gabbana released a few years ago.

DE: Da mir aber wie erwähnt auch Version 2 sehr gut gefallen hat, habe ich in Birmingham, vor meiner Abschiedsparty, noch einen schönen Baumwoll-Satin bei John Lewis gekauft. Da das Kleid etwas enger anliegt, ist es ratsam einen Stoff zu verwenden, der etwas elastisch ist. Kommen wir zum eingemachtem! Als erstes muss ich sagen, dass bei diesem Muster die Anleitung etwas schmächtiger ausfallen als sonst bei Tilly, das liegt vor allem daran, das sie für diesen Schnitt einen Online-Kurs anbietet, was vor allem für Anfänger ansprechend ist. Für alle, die schon ein Kleid genäht haben, reicht die Anleitung voll aus, wie immer sind bei allen Schritten Fotos beigefügt, sollte man nicht genau wissen, was zu tun ist.

EN: As I really liked the version with the 3/4 sleeves as well, so I bought some blue and white cotton sateen from John Lewis on the night of my last meet-up in Birmingham. (CAN YOU HEAR ME CRYING??) As the dress is quite formfitting it is a good idea to use a fabric with a little give. Let’s get down to business: The instructions are quite brief, as far as Tilly instructions go, I suppose, as she is also offering an online course for this dress, there was no need for any hand holding in the written instructions. That being said, there are pictures and really good descriptions of what you need to do, if you get stuck. I think, if you’ve sewn a dress before, you should be fine!

DE: Ich habe die Größe 4 gewählt und beide Kleider dann ausgeschnitten, mir gefallen die vielen Abnäher sehr gut, die schmeicheln der Figur und man merkt, dass Tilly nun versucht mit diesem Schnittmuster auch Fortgeschrittene Näherinnen für ihre Designs zu begeistern. Die kleinen Taschen auf Hüfthöhe, sind ein tolles Detail, jedoch gehen sie leider bei dem Muster meines Kleides unter =/ und dass obwohl ich auch noch extra Knöpfe bezogen hatte!!! HEUL! Als  ich das Kleid dann zum ersten Mal anprobiert hatte, fand ich den Rock etwas zu Tulpen förmig, der machte vor allem sehr breite Hüften und einen absackenden Hinter, weniger schick…. Ich habe also den Stoff mit Nadeln  festgesteckt und anschließend mit der Maschine festgenäht, sah sofort besser aus. Auch habe ich die Abnäher hinten am Rock und am Oberteil jeweils um 0.5 cm erweitert, dass macht die Passform deutlich besser. Eigentlich wollte ich für diese Version 3/4 Ärmel annähen, jedoch fand ich, dass es fast besser ohne Ärmel aussah und habe dann mit die Ärmel einfach weggelassen. Den Saum habe ich per Hand genäht, ich finde, das sieht deutlich schicker aus und ich nähe sehr gerne vor dem Fernseher…..

EN: I made up a size 4, I liked the many darts that made the whole dress very flattering, you can tell that Tilly wants to branch out and win over more experienced seamstress (COUNT ME IN!) with her new designs. I loved the little coin flaps on the waistline, that unfortunately get lost in my very busy print, I even covered 2 buttons with the same fabric, NOBODY CAN SEE THEM!!! WHY??? When I tried on the dress, I found the skirt to be a little bit to tulip-shaped and it made my hips look very large and my bum sag…. not a good look, however there is a very quick fix to that, just pin the excess fabric and sew a new seam. EASY PEASY! I also deepend the darts in the back bodice and skirt by 0.5cm for a better fit. I actually wanted to make the long sleeved version, as mentioned above, but once I tried on the dress, I thought it looked really nice without sleeves and therefore just left them off. I hand sewed the hems, I think it looks really smart and I also love hand sewing in front of the TV.

DE: Was das Zitronenkleid angeht, habe ich die gleichen Anpassungen von erstem Kleid übernommen und nur noch den Kragen eingenäht, EASY PEASY! Mir hat das Schnittmuster wirklich gut gefallen,  die vielen kleinen Details haben es mir doch sehr angetan, jedoch muss ich dazu sagen, dass ich schon einige Änderungen machen musste, damit die Passform am fertigem Kleid besser wurde. Für Fortgeschrittene Näherinnen wird dies kein Problem sein, jedoch glaube ich, dass Anfänger oder Näherinnen mit weniger Erfahrung daran schon etwas knabbern werden.

EN: I did the exact same alterations to the Lemon dress with the exception of adding the  collar, EASY PEASY. I really liked this pattern, all the little details made me smile, I especially liked the darts and the flaps. =D That being said, I did have to make a few alterations, for a better fit. This is not a problem for a more advanced seamstress, however if you are a newbie or just don’t have that much experience, this might be a bit of an issue.

DE: Eine Kritik hätte ich bezüglich des Kits: die beigefügte Vlieseline ist FURCHTBAR!!! Ich glaube, gedacht war sie für Taschen, viel zu dick und unflexibel, als ich sie zuerst in den Händen hatte dachte ich mir das schon, aber ich hatte keine andere Daheim und habe sie dann für den Beleg verwendet… der ganze Halsausschnitt stand ab und ich habe mich über mich selbst geärgert. Es blieb mir nichts anderes übrig, als den Beleg wieder herauszureißen! Ich habe einen Bastiststoff verwendet und damit das Oberteil gefüttert, damit war das Problem dann bei beiden Kleidern gelöst. Das restliche Stoffkit war eigentlich super, der Stoff ist von einer guten Qualität und die Kurzwaren (Nähseide und Reißverschluss) waren echt in Ordnung.

En: I do have to do a small critique of the fabric kit: The fusible is TERRIBLE!!!! I think it’s meant for bags, as it is much to heavy and stable for a dress. I held it in my hands when I opened the kit and thought, that this was too heavy, but as I didn’t have any other fusible at home, I ended up using it on the facing. The facing made the neckline and shoulders levitate, I KID YOU NOT. I had to rip it out and then decided to use some lawn I had in my stash and just lined the bodice with it. It fixed the problem on both dresses and it looked sooo much better… Other than that, the kit is awesome, the fabric is great and all the notions, including the zip are perfect.
