EN: So here’s the thing, after sewing 2 (!!) trench coats in a very short time I desperately needed a pallet cleanser. I am a creature of habit, when I find something I like, I stop looking at anything else and stick with it. When it comes to the skirts in my closet, they are all a similar length and pencil skirts. In the past few months I noticed the trend of the pleated fabric skirt in fantastic autumn/winter colors such a burgundy red and navy blue and now that spring has arrived, in all those beautiful pastel colors that are currently so on trend. I loved the way they looked but didn’t think they’d suit me. I went to Goldhawk Road last October and found some beautiful burgundy pleated fabric at A to Z Fabrics for just 5 GBP per meter and took it home with me, where it lingered in my stash until a few weeks ago. I decided to broaden my horizon an try a new silhouette and man, WHAT TOOK ME SO LONG???

DE: Nachdem ich innerhalb sehr kurzer Zeit, zwei Trench Coats genäht habe, habe ich beschlossen etwas einfaches zu nähen, was mir nicht den Verstand raubt! In meinem Kleiderschrank befinden sich nur Röcke, die alle gleich lang sind und großteils nur Bleistift Röcke sind. Ein wenig langweilig, und ich beschloss, nachdem ich soooo viele von diesen Plissee Röcken in Zeitschriften und in der Fußgängerzone gesehen hatte, mich an diese Siluhette zu trauen. Ich war letzten Oktober auf der Goldhawk Road in London und habe einen Burgunder roten Plissee Stoffe bei A to Z Fabrics gefunden, der sofort in mein Lager gewandert ist und vergessen wurde!! ASCHE AUF MEIN HAUPT!!! Vor wenigen Wochen, habe ich ihn dann ausgegraben und mich endlich and den Rock getraut.

EN:I took me about 30 minutes (!!!) to make the skirt, all you have to do is sew that one seam together and overlock it, gather the waistline and then attach it to a wide elastic band. EASY PEASY!! I paired the red skirt with a Jennifer Lauren Vintage Gable Top in a charcoal grey jersey from Minerva crafts that I made in November before I flew to California. The Gable top is very easy and quick to make up and I find the slashed neckline so very flattering. The only thing that I struggles with, was top stitching the neckline, I think I ripped out the stitches three times, because I couldn’t persuade my machine to sew all the stitches as perfectly as I wanted them to be…

DE: Das Nähen hat mich genau 30 Minuten gekostet, da man ja nur 1 Naht vernähen muss und den Bund anschließend and einen weiten Gummiband festnähen muss. EASY PEASY. Den roten Rock habe ich mit einem Jennifer Lauren Vintage Gable Top getragen kombiniert. Der Schnitt ist sehr einfach zu vernähen und mir gefällt wie schmeichelhaft das top ist. Das einzige Problem das ich hatte, war das ich die Ziernaht am Halsausschnitt mehrfach auftrennen musste, weil meine Machine gezickt hat und die Stiche etwas unregelmäßig waren….

EN:Last weekend I met up with a few other IG seamstresses and went shopping at Goldhawk Road, for the very last time, before I move back to Germany. I quickly stopped by A to Z Fabrics and lo and behold, they had some of the pleated fabric in pastel colors! I took home a meter and made the exact same skirt for myself (and one for my mom!) which I paired here with an RTW sweater. I love both looks, the pastel skirt is very spring-y and on trend and the red skirt will definitely be on heavy rotation once autumn and winter come along … Sometimes making a very simple garment and leaving your garment comfort zone, is a great idea. I feel like I need to push myself more to make things, that I perhaps wouldn’t wear because my taste is just a bit too stuffy. That said… I will most definitely not make culottes anytime soon.. DE: Letztes Wochenende, war ich mit einigen IG Damen ein letzes Mal auf der Goldhawk Road, bevor ich wieder nach Deutschland ziehe. Ich habe dann einen kurzen Abstecher bei A to Z Fabrics gemacht und er hatte Plissee Stoffe in Pastelltönen. Ich habe, natürlich einen Meter mitgenommen und den gleichen Rock noch einmal genäht! Diese Mal habe ich den Rock mit einem gekauften Pulli kombiniert, mir gefällt wie frisch und Frühlingshaft das Outfit ist. Manchmal muss man eine neue Silhouette ausprobieren und sich an Sachen trauen die man vielleicht sonst nicht getragen hätte. Ich bin froh darum aber, Culotten kommen mir trotzdem nicht ins Haus!
